IMD issued orange alert for thunderstorms, heavy rain in Tripura

Date:

Agartala, 27th April 2026:  The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre Agartala has issued an orange alert for parts of Tripura, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and isolated heavy rainfall over the next two days.

According to the latest weather bulletin for April 27–28, moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 50–60 kmph are very likely to affect one or two places in Khowai district and West Tripura district. These conditions may also bring isolated spells of heavy rain.

The warning continues for April 28–29, with similar weather patterns expected in the same districts. Authorities have retained the orange alert for these areas, indicating a higher risk of disruption due to adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts of the state. Though less severe, it still points to the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph at isolated locations.

The Meteorological Centre has said it is closely monitoring the situation and has advised residents to remain alert and follow updates from official sources.
