Dharmanagar MLA Jahar Chakraborty takes oath at Tripura Assembly

Agartala, 13th May 2026:   Newly elected MLA of Dharmanagar constituency, Jahar Chakraborty, formally took oath on today at the lobby of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, State BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Speaker Rampada Jamatia, along with several ministers, MLAs, and prominent political figures.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the newly elected legislator would play a constructive role in the overall development of Dharmanagar and the state. Following his oath, Chakraborty stated that his foremost objective is to advance the development of Dharmanagar with collective efforts, pledging to work inclusively across party lines.

Speaker Rampada Jamatia administered the oath, after which Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee, and other dignitaries felicitated Chakraborty with floral tributes. Among those present were Ministers Ratan Lal Nath, Sushanta Chowdhury, Santana Chakma, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman.

Speaking to the press, the Chief Minister recalled that the Dharmanagar seat had fallen vacant following the demise of former Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen. He noted that the by-election had filled this constitutional void and prayed for Chakraborty’s success in fulfilling his legislative responsibilities. He further expressed confidence that the new MLA would contribute actively and constructively to the Assembly’s proceedings and the state’s development.

Chakraborty reiterated that development is his core political commitment, vowing to transform Dharmanagar into a modern and progressive town. He assured that under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha and BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee, the ongoing development momentum in Tripura would be accelerated in Dharmanagar as well.

It may be noted that the Dharmanagar constituency became vacant after the passing of Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen. In the subsequent by-election, BJP fielded Jahar Chakraborty, who secured victory by a margin of over 18,000 votes. With Wednesday’s oath-taking, he has officially assumed his constitutional responsibilities as MLA.
