Teliamura residents facing fuel crisis, black-market activity

Date:

Agartala, 19th May 2026:  Teliamura residents are reeling under a dual crisis — crumbling roads and rampant black-market activity leaving ordinary citizens gasping for relief. Administrative silence and mismanagement have worsened the situation, forcing people into long queues and daily hardship.

From early this morning, hundreds of people thronged the local gas agency and Maharani Pur petrol pump. Complaints poured in that the deplorable condition of roadways has disrupted the supply of petrol and diesel across the state, triggering an acute fuel shortage in most pumps of Teliamura subdivision.

Taking advantage of the crisis, black-market operators have openly stepped in. Bottled petrol is being sold in the town’s alleys at exorbitant rates Rs 200, Rs 250, even Rs 300 per litre while the official price hovers around Rs 103. Despite the blatant illegality, authorities remain conspicuously inactive. Allegations point towards the concerned departments, accused of turning a blind eye instead of cracking down on profiteers. No visible raids or seizures have been reported, allowing the situation to spiral further out of control.

When fuel finally arrived at Maharani Pur petrol pump after two days, chaos broke out. Long lines of motorbikes, autos, and passenger vehicles stretched under the scorching sun, with people struggling to endure the wait. Meanwhile, at the town’s only gas agency, customers faced endless delays with excuses like “no internet” or “come later.” Hours of waiting yielded nothing but uncertainty.

Daily wage earners are the worst hit. Forced to abandon work and stand in queues for hours, they face lost income and mounting household strain. For them, the fuel crisis is a crushing blow on top of existing hardships.

The burning question remains: will the administration continue to slumber, or will it finally act against the black-market nexus to restore normalcy in Teliamura? Residents now await decisive intervention to bring relief to their daily lives.
