Agartala, 24th May 2026 : Heightened concerns over rising theft incidents have triggered widespread panic and resentment among residents of Udaipur subdivision town and its adjoining areas. Allegations are rife that while some individuals are being pushed towards criminal activities due to acute financial distress, others are allegedly engaging in thefts to finance drug addiction. Although public anger often surfaces over perceived police inaction following such incidents, the police of Radhakishorepur Police Station have, in certain cases, managed to secure notable success through timely intelligence-based operations.
In a major breakthrough, the police succeeded in arresting two alleged thieves within just 24 hours of a sensational burglary incident in the Matabari area. According to reports, the theft took place at around 3:30 AM on the night of May 22, when a group of miscreants allegedly broke open the shutters and doors of three well-known Pera sweet shops situated side by side in the area. After entering the establishments, the accused reportedly smashed open cash boxes and fled with nearly Rs 25,000 in cash.
The incident came to light on the morning of May 23, after the shop owners discovered the burglary and immediately informed the police. A team from Radhakishorepur Police Station promptly rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. After reviewing CCTV footage collected from the area, the affected shop owners lodged formal written complaints at the police station.
Police sources stated that a detailed examination of the CCTV footage, coupled with assistance from staff members of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, helped investigators identify the accused individuals by around 5 PM on May 23. Following this breakthrough, a special police team launched a targeted operation in the Kakraban College Tilla area based on confidential inputs and successfully apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in the theft.
During interrogation, police reportedly recovered Rs 13,000 from the accused out of the estimated Rs 25,000 stolen during the burglary. Confirming the development at a press conference, Debanjali Roy stated that the arrested individuals would be produced before the Udaipur District and Sessions Court on Sunday.
Over the past several days, incidents of theft have reportedly increased sharply across Udaipur town and nearby areas, creating anxiety among residents and traders alike. The arrest of the accused has brought temporary relief to local business owners. However, many residents are now questioning whether the police will continue such proactive operations to curb theft and drug-related crime in the region or whether the present action will remain limited to a short-term success story. Local observers believe the coming days will determine how effectively law enforcement responds to the broader law-and-order concerns emerging in the subdivision.
