Agartala, 5th June 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that the Centre has decided to establish smart border infrastructure across all areas guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF) to further strengthen India’s border security.
Speaking to BSF personnel at the Border Out Post (BOP) in Lankamura, located in Tripura’s West District, Shah said the Smart Border Project is in its final phase and is expected to significantly enhance the country’s border management capabilities.
He explained that the initiative is built on a four-pronged strategy involving close coordination with local administration, extensive use of modern technology, increased deployment of security personnel, and the development of robust infrastructure.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the BSF, Shah noted that the force secures both the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders, which are vulnerable to threats such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, arms smuggling, and counterfeit currency networks.
“We have resolved to implement smart border systems wherever the BSF is deployed. By integrating technology, strengthening administrative support, and enhancing manpower, we aim to make our borders more secure and impenetrable,” he said.
The Home Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of border personnel. He stressed that even small improvements in living conditions can have a significant impact on soldiers serving in challenging environments.
Shah said the nation’s citizens are able to live peacefully because border guards remain vigilant around the clock, describing their responsibility as one that earns the respect and gratitude of both the government and the public.
He also highlighted India’s efforts to address climate change, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched several initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, promote clean energy, and improve energy efficiency. According to Shah, India’s climate policies have received international recognition and were widely appreciated during the Paris Climate Conference.
The programme was attended by senior BSF officials and personnel deployed along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura.
