Agartala, 7th June 2026: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Customs Preventive Force (CPF) Unit, Singerbil, Customs Division Agartala has seized a huge consignment of 898.42 kilograms of dry Ganja (Cannabis) valued at Rs 4,49,21,000 from a 10-wheeler truck.
Acting on specific secret intelligence received on June 6, 2026, a team led by Customs Officers, intercepted the truck bearing registration number NL 01AK 9982 near Barapukur SB School, Hezamara, on the Agartala-Manik Bhandar-Kumarghat NH-108B route early morning today. The vehicle was found to be carrying a large quantity of contraband concealed inside specially fabricated secret cavities in its fuel tank.
The raiding team, led by Superintendent, CPF, Singerbil, conducted a thorough search of the vehicle. During the search, 135 plastic-wrapped packets (96 black and 39 brown) containing dry leafy plant material emitting a strong smell of Ganja were recovered from the hidden chambers of the fuel tank. The seized substance tested positive for Ganja through the NDPS Field Drug Testing Kit.
The driver of the truck was arrested on the spot under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. He has been booked under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), 25, 28, and 29 of the NDPS Act.
A case has been registered under NDPS act. This significant seizure is considered a major blow to the drug smuggling network in the region. Further investigation is underway to trace the source, destination, and other persons involved in the racket.
Customs Division Agartala has appealed to the public to provide any credible information regarding drug trafficking. All inputs will be kept confidential and acted upon promptly.
