Agartala, 11th June 2026: A tragic incident has shocked residents of Baligaon area under Kamalpur subdivision in Tripura, where the body of a 61-year-old woman was recovered from a local pond after she went missing while bathing.
The deceased has been identified as Mayarani Lod. According to family members and local sources, Mayarani went to bathe in a pond near her house on Wednesday evening, as she did regularly. When she did not return home for a long time, her family grew concerned and began searching for her.
Relatives and local residents searched throughout the night in different areas, but no trace of her was found.
On Thursday morning, some local residents noticed a body floating in the pond and immediately alerted the family. Family members reached the spot and identified the body as Mayarani Lod.
Police also arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and initiated the necessary legal procedures.
Preliminary reports suggest that she may have accidentally drowned while bathing. However, police have started an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
The family has stated that they do not suspect anyone in connection with the incident.
The sudden death has cast a pall of grief over Baligaon, leaving the family devastated and the entire locality in mourning.
