Development claims questioned at Jolaibari as residents highlight ground realities

Date:

Agartala, 15th June 2026:  While images and narratives of development continue to dominate social media platforms, the situation on the ground in the Jolaibari Assembly constituency presents a contrasting picture, according to local residents and emerging reports.

During the 2023 assembly elections, BJP workers, supporters, and leaders in Jolaibari had campaigned extensively to secure victory for Shuklacharan Noatia, the candidate of the BJP-allied IPFT. Following his electoral success, Noatia was inducted into the state cabinet, raising expectations of accelerated development across the constituency.

However, concerns are now being raised over the pace and quality of development works. Critics have alleged irregularities in the utilization of funds for the construction of a new gallery at Jolaibari Higher Secondary School. According to these allegations, the project did not result in substantial improvement and has been described by some as a superficial upgrade rather than a meaningful infrastructure enhancement.

In the West Jolaibari Livestock Farm area, residents have voiced serious grievances regarding basic amenities. Locals report persistent issues with drinking water supply and deteriorating road conditions. They claim that a key road damaged by floods several years ago remains unrepaired despite repeated appeals to Panchayat representatives and concerned authorities.

Frustrated by the lack of response, residents have now sought intervention from the Chief Minister and appealed to the media to highlight their concerns. The situation has also triggered broader political discussions, with some alleging that inadequate development initiatives have contributed to dissatisfaction among voters.

Adding to the political discourse are claims related to the 2026 ADC elections. According to local sources, the decision by IPFT to field a candidate in Jolaibari may have split votes, leading to the defeat of the BJP candidate and enabling a Tipra Motha nominee to secure victory. While these claims remain part of local political debate, they have intensified scrutiny over leadership and coordination within the alliance.

Amid growing discontent, residents are calling for immediate and concrete measures to improve infrastructure, particularly road connectivity and access to safe drinking water. The situation in West Jolaibari has, in particular, drawn attention to the gap between projected development narratives and the lived realities of the people.

As concerns continue to mount, all eyes are now on the administration’s response and whether tangible steps will be taken to address the pressing issues faced by the residents of Jolaibari.
