Agartala, 26th June 2026: The old jail complex at Juri in North Tripura is undergoing a remarkable transformation into a modern rural marketing hub aimed at boosting women-led entrepreneurship and promoting locally made products.
Under an initiative of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), the North Tripura District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) is developing the Integrated Marketing Centre, named *JURI HAAT*, at the former jail premises. The project seeks to create a permanent marketplace where rural producers can connect directly with customers while showcasing the district’s rich cultural and artisanal heritage.
The upcoming centre will provide Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with dedicated space to market a variety of handmade goods, traditional handicrafts, and locally processed products. To enhance the visitor experience, the facility will also include a coffee house and a restaurant serving regional delicacies.
Officials believe the project will not only strengthen livelihood opportunities for rural women but also encourage tourism and support the local economy by creating a vibrant destination for shopping, food, and cultural engagement.
Construction and renovation work have crossed the 90 percent mark, with finishing touches currently in progress. The marketing centre is expected to open its doors to the public shortly.
Once operational, JURI HAAT will stand as a symbol of positive transformation—turning a site that once represented incarceration into a thriving centre of commerce, community, and economic empowerment for North Tripura.
