Date:

Agartala, 27th June 2026:   The SC and OBC wings of the Pradesh Congress have announced a programme to lay siege to the SC and OBC Corporation office on June 29, pressing for the fulfilment of an 11-point charter of demands.

The announcement was made on Saturday at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan by SC Department Chairman Niranjan Das and OBC Department Chairman Manoranjan Debnath during a press conference. The leaders said the programme would highlight issues concerning the welfare, employment opportunities, and economic support systems for Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Class communities.

Among the major demands placed by the SC wing are the immediate filling of all vacant posts in government departments and ensuring various welfare benefits through the SC Corporation. They demanded loans for purchasing vehicles and auto-rickshaws without the condition of providing a guarantor, a monthly allowance of ₹5,000 for educated unemployed youths, and loans up to ₹30 lakh for SC engineers to undertake contract works.

The Congress leaders also demanded free education from the primary level to university level and an increase in the daily wage of MGNREGA workers to ₹500.

The OBC wing raised separate demands, including removal of the requirement of a government employee as guarantor for obtaining loans from the OBC Corporation. They also demanded the introduction of scholarships and professional development schemes for OBC students through the state budget and the formation of an OBC Development Council.

Another key demand was the implementation of a 27 percent reservation policy for OBC candidates in all central educational institutions, including Tripura University and NIT Jirania. The leaders further demanded a monthly unemployment allowance of ₹5,000 for educated unemployed youths from the OBC community.

The Congress representatives stated that the June 29 agitation would be aimed at drawing attention to what they described as long-pending demands of SC and OBC communities and urged the government to take immediate steps for their implementation.
