Pipeline burst disrupts water supply: East Ludhua tea estate residents face drinking water crisis

Date:

Agartala, 27th June 2026:   Residents of East Ludhua Tea Estate under Rupaichari Block of Sabroom Subdivision have been facing a severe drinking water crisis for a prolonged period due to disruption in the local water supply system.

Residents informed, a pipeline network was installed under government initiatives to provide drinking water connections to individual households, along with the construction of storage tanks at different locations. However, despite the infrastructure being put in place, water is reportedly not reaching the reservoirs or homes, leaving many families without a regular supply of drinking water.

Locals alleged that multiple points along the pipeline network have developed leakages and burst sections, leading to continuous wastage of water and further affecting the supply system. They claimed that the issue has been brought to the attention of the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department several times, but no permanent solution has been implemented so far.

Residents further stated that the department has informed them that there is currently no allocated fund for carrying out necessary pipeline repairs. This, they said, has resulted in the deterioration of a water supply system that was developed to benefit the people of the area.

The affected residents expressed frustration over the lack of maintenance and urged the authorities to take immediate steps to restore the damaged pipelines, repair the affected sections, and make the existing water storage facilities fully functional.

They have demanded urgent government intervention to ensure a regular and uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water to the families living in East Ludhua Tea Estate. The residents believe that timely repairs and proper maintenance can resolve the crisis and allow the community to benefit from the existing water infrastructure.
