Agartala, 29th June 2026: A shocking situation has emerged from Faguna Para, where an Anganwadi centre has reportedly fallen into severe neglect, raising serious concerns over the functioning of child welfare services in the area.
Locals allege that due to the alleged apathy of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, the condition of Anganwadi centres across the region is deteriorating, affecting both infrastructure and service quality. As a result, parents are increasingly reluctant to send their children to these centres.
The situation in Faguna Para has become particularly alarming, where the Anganwadi centre has reportedly remained closed for a long time. With no regular operations, children are being deprived of early education, while pregnant women and others eligible for supplementary nutrition are also missing out on essential services, including mid-day meal provisions.
According to local sources, the centre was earlier managed by helper Durga Debbarma, who passed away. Later, Surjyarani Debbarma was appointed as the new helper. However, due to disputes related to the appointment process, the centre has remained non-functional for an extended period.
In an unusual and distressing turn of events, locals claim that the abandoned centre premises have been taken over by pigs and other livestock, highlighting the extent of neglect.
Residents have strongly criticized the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), accusing the department of negligence and failure to resolve the issue. They have demanded immediate intervention and restoration of services.
