Diarrhea Scare Grips Nonachhara Area, Residents Demand Medical Intervention

Date:

Agartala, 30th June 2026:  A possible outbreak of diarrhea has triggered concern in the remote Nonachhara area under Krishnapur Assembly Constituency in Khowai district, allegedly due to the consumption of unsafe drinking water.

Local residents claim that the lack of an adequate supply of safe drinking water has forced people to consume contaminated water, resulting in several cases of water-borne illnesses. Among those reportedly affected are Santosh Kumar Molsom (60), Aldria Molsom (5½), Misanti Molsom (12), Sandami Molsom (45), and Poltu Molsom (26). Several other residents are also reportedly suffering from symptoms of diarrhea.

Many economically disadvantaged families are unable to afford treatment, leaving patients confined to their homes without proper medical care. Residents have also alleged severe neglect in healthcare services, pointing out that the Nonachhara Health Sub-Centre has remained closed for a long time despite having an existing building.

As a result, villagers are forced to travel long distances to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital even for minor illnesses. Residents have questioned how people in remote hilly areas can access healthcare during emergencies when the local health facility remains shut.

Locals have demanded that the Health Department immediately send a medical team to the area, provide treatment to affected patients, distribute medicines and ORS packets, ensure safe drinking water, and reopen the health sub-centre. No official response has yet been issued by the Health Department or district administration.
