Opposition Trying to Mislead Public Over NEET Issue, Alleges Tourism Minister

Date:

Agartala 23rd July 2026 :  Tourism and Transport Minister  Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday accused opposition parties, including the Congress, of politicising the NEET question paper leak issue and attempting to create confusion among students and the public.

Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP state headquarters in Agartala, Chowdhury alleged that the opposition was using the controversy for political advantage instead of supporting efforts to resolve the issue.

He claimed that examination-related irregularities and corruption allegations had also emerged during previous governments but were not given similar attention by opposition leaders. Referring to the former UPA-led Congress government, the minister alleged that several corruption cases and paper leak controversies had surfaced during that period, yet many involved individuals escaped accountability.

Chowdhury further alleged that certain groups were attempting to damage the country’s image by running negative campaigns against the Central government.

He said the government was treating the NEET paper leak matter with seriousness and was open to discussions in Parliament. However, he accused the opposition of making “baseless allegations” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan instead of engaging in meaningful debate.

Highlighting the government’s measures, the minister said steps were being taken to ensure strict and speedy action against those responsible for examination irregularities. He added that the proposed fast-track legal process would send a strong message that anyone compromising the future of students would face consequences.

Chowdhury assured that the NEET investigation would be conducted in a fair and transparent manner, and those found guilty would face strict legal action. He also warned that attempts to disturb public order or create an atmosphere of unrest would not be tolerated by the government.
