Two Arrested for Illegal Cross-Border Movement in Tripura

Agartala, 2nd September 2026 : Madhupur police have achieved another success in their crackdown on illegal infiltration and unauthorised cross-border movement by arresting a Bangladeshi national and an Indian citizen allegedly involved in an attempt to cross into Bangladesh through an illegal route.

According to police sources, the Bangladeshi national has been identified as Ashish Chandra Pal, a resident of Ghoshpara under Sadar Dakshin police station in Cumilla district of Bangladesh. Police said Pal had allegedly entered India illegally through the Khowai border on July 18.

After entering India, Pal reportedly sought to return to Bangladesh and contacted a person from the Mayapur area of Kolkata. He was allegedly put in touch with Babul Das, a resident of Konaban Chakbasta area in Tripura, who is suspected to have acted as a middleman.

Police said the two were arrested while allegedly preparing to cross the international border illegally with the assistance of the intermediary.

An investigation has been launched to determine whether other individuals are involved in the suspected cross-border network. Police are also questioning the accused to gather information about others who may be linked to the illegal movement of people across the border.

The two accused were produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday afternoon.
