Nearly 30-year-old land dispute sparks tension at Bamutia

Date:

Agartala, 12th September 2026 :  A land dispute dating back nearly three decades has created tension in Berimura Pal Para of Rangutia village under the Bamutia Tehsil office in Mohanpur subdivision.

According to the family, late Abinash Das and Karnamani Das purchased one kani of land from late Adhir Goswami alias Narayan Goswami and Shankar Goswami of the same locality around 1997, reportedly for their sister’s marriage. However, the formal sale deed was never executed despite repeated requests, they alleged.

The matter resurfaced suddenly when Tehsil officials visited the family’s residence and informed them that Shankar Goswami had filed a lawsuit concerning the disputed land. The family also alleged that a legal clerk associated with Shankar Goswami attempted to influence Tehsil officials, though the allegation could not be independently verified.

The family members said they had repeatedly sought completion of the land documentation over the years but received assurances instead of the deed. They have now appealed for an amicable settlement of the long-standing dispute.
