Agartala, 6th October 2026 : Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday described the Village Committee election results as a clear political message from the people of Tripura, saying the mandate reflects their confidence in the NDA’s approach to development and governance.
Speaking after the results, Dr. Saha said the scale of the NDA’s victory was in line with his earlier assessment that the alliance would secure more than 90 per cent of the seats.
“The people have given us more than we expected. This is a positive development for Tripura and gives us greater responsibility to work for the people,” the Chief Minister said.
He said the election results should be viewed not merely as a victory for political parties but as an indication of what people expect from their representatives and local institutions.
According to Dr. Saha, voters are increasingly focused on issues concerning development, basic needs and effective governance rather than political rhetoric rooted in the past.
“People know what they want, what they need and what they expect from the government and different levels of institutions. We have to understand those expectations and work accordingly,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the NDA government would seek to use the mandate to strengthen development efforts across both the tribal areas and the plains.“We hope that in the future we will work together in the hills and plains for the development of Tripura. The mandate has increased our responsibility, and we must work accordingly,” he said.
Dr. Saha also urged the opposition parties to analyse the election results and understand the reasons behind their repeated electoral setbacks. He criticised the opposition for questioning the electoral process after defeats, saying that repeatedly blaming EVMs or the Election Commission would not help them regain public confidence.
“Instead of making allegations after every defeat, they should think about why the people are not accepting their politics. The people have given their verdict, and that verdict needs to be understood,” he said.
The Chief Minister maintained that the VC election outcome was another indication that voters were looking ahead and expecting development-oriented politics from their representatives.
