Agartala, 24th October 2026 : . With an aim to ensure that every household shares the happiness of Sharadotsav and Diwali, the Tripura government has announced a special festive package of essential food items for all ration card-holding families in the state. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said each eligible family would receive 2 kg of refined flour (maida), 1 kg of sugar and 500 grams of semolina (suji) free of cost.
Describing the initiative as an extension of the government’s public welfare commitment, Chowdhury said the Food Department had undertaken the programme to bring festive cheer to people across economic backgrounds. He stressed that the objective was to ensure that the joy of the celebrations reached every home and that ordinary families could observe the festivals with enthusiasm.
The minister formally inaugurated the distribution programme by handing over the food items to beneficiaries at Fair Price Shop No. 1 in Ranirbazar under Jirania subdivision. He also launched the initiative at Fair Price Shop No. 61 near Pragati Vidyalaya in Agartala, distributing the supplies among ration card holders.
Chowdhury said the state government had maintained its tradition of extending assistance to the public during major festivals. The free distribution of these essential commodities is intended to ease some of the expenses families face while preparing for the festive season.
He reiterated that the initiative reflects the government’s people-oriented approach and its determination to make Sharadotsav and Diwali occasions of happiness for all sections of society.
Under the programme, ration card-holding families throughout Tripura will receive the prescribed quantities of maida, sugar and suji without having to pay for them. The Food Department’s initiative is aimed at ensuring that the festive spirit extends beyond individual communities and reaches households throughout the state.
