Date:

Agartala, 24th October 2026 : A pistol manufactured by an American company, measuring 6.5 mm, was recovered from a vehicle during a police naka checking operation in front of the Boxanagar Community Hall, near Kalamchhara Police Station. The incident took place at around 8:30 pm on Saturday, triggering considerable tension in the area.

The name of Hriday Mia, a resident of Southpara in Boxanagar, whose father is identified as Robiul Basar, has emerged in connection with the incident.

According to police sources, Officer-in-Charge of Kalumchhara Police Station Himadri Sarkar had received prior information from confidential sources. Acting on the tip-off, a large police and TSR contingent, led by Additional DCM Abhiram Debbarma, intercepted an XUV300 bearing registration number TR-01-BW-0644 and conducted a search.

During the search, the pistol was recovered from the vehicle’s toolbox. Preliminary information suggests that the firearm was not loaded with any ammunition.

According to allegations, Hriday Mia, who was inside the vehicle, attempted to flee with the vehicle while the search was underway. Two journalists were reportedly injured during the incident. He was subsequently taken to the police station after the necessary formalities were completed. However, the police are yet to provide a detailed statement regarding the incident, and further developments in the investigation are awaited.

It may be recalled that on the night of October 20, during Nabami celebrations, Hriday Mia and an alleged accomplice were accused of stopping an auto-rickshaw in the Mettabari area of Boxanagar and threatening Kalipada Das, a resident of Veluarchar, and his wife with a pistol. They allegedly looted ₹25,000 in cash and gold ornaments from the couple.

In another incident, an allegation was also raised that ₹5,000 was snatched from a man named Dipak Sarkar in the Barmura area of North Kalumchhara. Following these two incidents, Kalipada Das and Dipak Sarkar reportedly lodged written complaints at Kalumchhara Police Station. Based on the complaints, a robbery case numbered 60/2026 was registered at the police station.

Local sources claim that police had been searching for Hriday Mia in connection with the case.

There are also allegations linking Hriday Mia to an incident of assault and vandalism at a woman’s residence in the Durganagar area. According to the allegations, the gate of the house and various household items were damaged. Subsequently, some local youths reportedly detained him and sent him to a de-addiction centre in the Ghaniamara area.

It has further been alleged that on Saturday, after his family members brought him back from the de-addiction centre, he threatened to kill Russell Mia, son of Kanu Mia of the Rahimpur area, while allegedly showing him a pistol. However, the veracity of these allegations remains to be established through investigation.

Questions have also arisen regarding the ownership of the XUV300 involved in the incident. According to available information, the vehicle previously belonged to a person named Hannan Mia.

It has been alleged that on October 2, 2026, Hriday Mia’s mother, Sumoner Nessa, purchased the vehicle for ₹8.70 lakh in the presence of several witnesses. Of the total amount, ₹3.50 lakh was reportedly paid by cheque, while the remaining amount was to be paid after the vehicle’s documentation process was completed. These details regarding the transaction and ownership of the vehicle are also subject to verification.

The recovery of a pistol from the vehicle, coupled with multiple allegations of robbery, threats and vandalism, has created tension across Boxanagar and the Kalumchhara area.

Investigators are expected to examine the source of the recovered firearm, the ownership of the vehicle and whether the incident is connected to the earlier complaints.
