BSF seizes 86 Myanmar breed cattle, 18 held

Agartala: May 28. Acting swiftly on an intelligence input on May 28 regarding the transportation of Myanmar breed cattle from Shiblong near the Tripura-Mizoram border, BSF has seized 86 cattle and arrested 18 people.

The incident took place in the Shibbari area under the Manu police station of the Longtorai Valley subdivision.

BSF sources said that a team of 105 Battalion of BSF Tripura, closely monitored the tri-junction of Shivbari near Machalibazar, Police Station Manu, Dhalai district of Tripura

At about 4 AM early morning, the cattle-carrying vehicles arrived in the target area. The BSF team intercepted 20 vehicles carrying cattle, which was led by a leading vehicle (Mahindra Scorpio), and nabbed 18 people involved in the illegal transportation of livestock.

During the search and seizure operation, the BSF team recovered 86 livestock that were being transported in vehicles. A total of 18 vehicles were being used to smuggle these cows.

A total of 86 cattle were recovered in 18 vehicles. Out of 86, there were 3 cows that were already dead and three fell. The estimated market value of these cows is said to be more than Rs 9 crore. This is the first time in the state that such a large number of smuggled cows have been rescued at once. However, the cause of death of three cows found was due to compression of space in the vehicle. And three cows got sick.
