Agartala: June 16. At least 16 shops were gutted in a devastating fire today. The incident took place at Yakrai Bazar of Naksiraipara ADC Village under Kalyanpur police station. On receiving the information, Kalyanpur fire brigade personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control with long efforts. By that time, all the 16 small and big shops burnt to ashes.
The amount of damage is about ten lakh rupees. The incident of fire in the market of the populated area has spread intense excitement in the concerned area. Firefighters believed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Police of Kalyanpur police station said that yesterday night, during the heavy rain, the police reached the spot immediately after receiving the information about the fire in Yakrai Bazar. An investigation is underway to find out the exact cause of the incident. Meanwhile, a delegation of Teliamura sub-divisional administration officials led by MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury visited Yakrai Bazar, which was affected by the fire. MLAs and other officials spoke to the affected traders. MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury said the incident of fire in Yakrai Bazaar is unfortunate. He assured that the state government is with the victim families. The MLA has also assured them of financial assistance from the government.
