Agartala: August 04. In the financial year 2022-23, the state has witnessed a remarkable surge in its tea production, with a record-breaking 90 lakh kg of tea leaves produced, said Tripura Tea Development Corporation Chairman Santosh Saha today.
He said this achievement was made possible through the concerted efforts of 22 tea leaf factories in the state.
Saha said that the boost in tea production has led to a reduction in imports, significantly strengthening the state’s financial position.
“To further bolster the tea industry, the State Government has entrusted the management of two tea estates, Lakshiganga, and Teppanyalunga, located at Bamutia. This move ensures that tea leaves from the state are now being sent to outside markets, fostering economic growth”, he said.
Additionally, the government has taken a landmark decision to benefit tea workers. Two Gandas have distributed land as land rights to long-term tea workers, with 2000 workers already benefiting from this initiative.
“Furthering their commitment to the tea sector’s development, the TTDC has submitted a project to NEAC (North East Advisory Council) for the modernization of the Brahmakunda tea factory in Simna. The corporation has already received funds amounting to Rs 2 crore 3 lakh in the first phase and Rs 98 lakh in the second phase. The Department of Rural Development has been entrusted with the task of modernization and has invited tenders for the project”, said Saha.
Additionally, in a bid to expand production capabilities, a mini tea factory is being established in Machmara. The foundation stone has already been laid, and the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation has been assigned to oversee the project. Tenders for this venture will be invited by the end of August.
