Police seize drugs worth Rs 5 lakh at Madhya Charipara

Agartala, September 07, 2023: In a joint operation, the state police and the BSF seized narcotic substances worth around Rs 5 lakh from a house in Madhya Charipara area under Sadar-sub-division in Agartala on Thursday night.

According to West Tripura district’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Kiran Kumar, the raid was conducted based on a tip-off. “Amtali police station along with BSF personnel of Border Outpost No.42 at Nischintapur conducted a joint operation and recovered cash along with heroin, yaba tablets and empty vials from Milan Mia’s house in Madhya Charipara area,” he said.

He added that the seized drugs were meant for smuggling across the border to Bangladesh. “We have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are investigating the source and destination of the drugs,” he said.

The police also arrested Milan Mia, who is suspected to be a drug peddler. He will be produced before a court on Thursday.

The seizure included 62 grams of heroin, 900 yaba tablets, 5000 empty vials and Rs 5 thousand in cash.
