Agartala, September 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) karyakartas collected soil from house to house on Wednesday and Thursday as part of the ‘Amar Mati Amar Desh’ programme, which aims to bring the whole country together and commemorate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The soil collected from various houses will be sent to Delhi for making ‘Amrit Batika’, a garden of freedom.

The clay pot containing the soil was handed over to the Pradesh BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya in a ceremony at the BJP office in the state on Friday. Each district president handed over the earthen pot to the president. The programme continued with patriotic songs and tree plantation by the BJP state president.

Bhattacharya said that BJP does not do politics for power, but for social change. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated this programme to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence and to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters. He thanked the BJP karyakartas for their efforts and called them “gods” who work for people.

He also said that he does not believe in terrorism and that Modi has asked people to celebrate his birthday on September 17 by working for society and people. He urged the BJP workers and supporters to follow Modi’s example and serve the nation.

Mayor Dipak Majumder and the organizational district presidents of the BJP along with other karyakartas and supporters were present in the organized function.
