Agartala, November 16, 2023: The Governor of Tripura, Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, made a surprise visit to GB Pant Hospital (GBP), the main referral hospital of the state, on Thursday. He inspected the health services and infrastructure of the hospital, and interacted with the hospital authorities and patients.
The Governor’s visit comes amid complaints from the patients’ families about the poor quality of health services at GB Hospital for the past few months. Some doctors and health workers of the hospital have been accused of losing their sense of responsibility and neglecting the patients’ needs.
The Governor was welcomed by the Secretary of the Health Department, Sandeep N Rathore, the Principal of GBP, Dr. Sanjeev Debbarma, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, and other officials. He visited each ward of the hospital and enquired about the facilities and treatments available. He also checked the availability of medicines, equipment, and beds in the hospital.
The Governor did not make any comment to the media about his visit. However, sources said that he expressed his dissatisfaction with some aspects of the hospital management and instructed the authorities to take immediate steps to improve the situation. He also assured the patients and their relatives that the state government is committed to providing the best possible health care to the people of Tripura.
