BY TC News Desk

Agartala, November 16: A cremation dispute in the Kadmatoli area of Bishalgarh prompted the intervention of local authorities and police from Tahsildar to Bishalgarh police station. The issue arose after the residents of the locality objected to the traditional practice of cremating a deceased individual in a forested area near the house.

The incident involved the demise of a 95-year-old man, Gopal Chandra Das, earlier this morning. According to customary practices, the deceased’s body was intended to be taken to the nearby forest for cremation. However, local residents intervened, obstructing the family’s attempts to carry out the cremation in the designated area.

In response to the escalating situation, Bishalgarh Police and Tahsildar were promptly dispatched to the scene. The united opposition from the locals compelled the family of Gopal Chandra Das to transport the body to the crematorium for the final rites. Administrative workers emphasized that the crematorium, located within one kilometer from the deceased’s residence, was the appropriate site for the cremation.

While the family expressed a desire to conduct the cremation near their home, local resistance ensued. Administrative staff clarified that legal action would be taken if the bodies were not taken to the designated crematorium. The rationale behind this decision was to prevent environmental pollution associated with open-space cremation and to address concerns of fear among local villagers. Consequently, the deceased’s body was transported to the crematorium for the final rites, following the directives of the administrative authorities.
