16-year-old boy drowns at Maheshkhala

Agartala, May 16, 2024: In a heartbreaking incident, a swimming lesson turned tragic when a minor drowned at Tripura’s Maheshkhala Bottle Park under West district on Thursday afternoon. The local fire brigade was dispatched to the scene upon receiving the distress call. Despite a prolonged search effort, the young individual’s lifeless body was eventually recovered from the water.

A firefighter at the scene recounted the day’s harrowing events. “Biswajit Das, a 16-year-old from Anandanagar ventured into the waters with friends, hoping to learn how to swim. It was during this innocent pursuit that he tragically drowned,” they said.

The alarm was raised immediately by his companions prompting bystanders to leap into action and search the waters.

The fire brigade arrived swiftly and commenced a diligent search, which culminated in the discovery of Biswajit’s body in the Dighi. Upon retrieval, he was rushed to the hospital, where the attending physician pronounced him deceased.

The community mourns the loss of a young life cut short, and this incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers associated with water activities.
