Govt targets to open more 11,000 SHGs in 2022-23 FY, says Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma

Agartala, August 31, 2022: Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Wednesday said that the government has taken target to open more 11,000 self-help groups (SHGs) in the financial year of 2022-23.

Addressing an orientation programme on PRI-CBO convergence and village poverty reduction plan (VPRP) and Credit Camp for women SHGs organized by the Tripura Rural Livelihood mission at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Wednesday, Dev Varma said “In every programme, I have seen there is an immense enthusiasm among the mothers and sisters. After I have become the minister in-charge of Rural Development department about four and half years back, there were about 4000 SHGs only in three districts. On the present day, we are having 37,738 SHGs across the state and will add 11,000 more SHGs in 2022-23 fiscal year in all the eight districts.”

“Our people are habituated with political movements which cannot take place without flags and sticks. But through SHGs, we have proved that movements can be also be done through developments. We have worked to turn formations of SHGs into movement and on the present day, we are successful. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, vice-president Venkaiah Naidu, union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the state and talked with members of various SHGs. In the past, government were unaware of the power of SHGs”, he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Dev Varma said Tripura Livelihood Mission has become a movement for ‘Gramin Atmanirbhar’ (Rural Self-Reliant) and ‘Women Empowerment’. He expressed his heartiest gratefulness to the entire team of TRLM.

He further added, “Amount of Rs 22 crore has be handed over several SHGs in today’s programme. I thank the banks for cooperating and also distributed appointment letters to trainees under DDU-GKY. I wish them all success in their career.”
