Agartala, 29th May 2024:   Frustrated by a five-day power outage, residents of Murabari staged a protest on Wednesday afternoon by hanging locks on the local power office. The demonstrators demanded the immediate restoration of electricity, warning that they would keep the office locked until their power was restored.

Upon arriving at the electricity office, the protesters found no officials present to address their concerns. The absence of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and other staff fueled further anger among the residents. Reports indicate that approximately 800 families in the Murabari area of the Sepahijala district have been without electricity for five days, severely impacting their daily lives.

Local discontent has also been directed at Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Many residents criticized him, alleging that since taking office, he has been ineffective in addressing critical issues. The protesters recalled Nath’s controversial tenure as Education Minister and expressed fears that he might similarly mishandle the power department.

The community’s patience has worn thin, and they demand swift action to restore electricity and address the grievances of Murabari residents.
