Agartala, 8th June 2024: Techno India University, Tripura (TIUT) celebrated World Environment Day with a series of events from June 5 to June 7, 2024. The festivities included a bicycle rally on the morning of June 7, organized in association with the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation. The rally, aimed at raising awareness about reducing pollution, began at 6:30 AM from the Tripura State Museum and concluded at the TIUT campus. About 50 cyclists, including university students participated.
Water Bottles, Certificates, and Medals were gifted to cyclists as tokens of appreciation during the rally. Pit Stop Preparation with Drinks, Disposable Cups, and Disposal Box, along with a Support Vehicle and Audio Equipment, were arranged to ensure the comfort and safety of participants throughout the rally.
Prof. (Dr.) Ratan Kumar Saha, Vice-Chancellor of TIUT, highlighted the benefits of cycling for both the environment and personal health. He stressed that reducing reliance on motor vehicles in favour of bicycles can help decrease air pollution and improve overall well-being. Prof. Saha also set an example by cycling for many kilometres during the rally, demonstrating health and energy to the participants.
Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura Women’s Commission flagged off the rally and emphasized the need to reduce pollution by using bicycles instead of motor vehicles. She noted that even small changes, like cycling two days a week, can significantly improve air quality and personal health.
The event also featured a food festival with organic, sustainable, and healthy food, a drawing and poster competition for children, and a quiz competition on environmental topics for university students. Miking was used to spread awareness throughout the community.TIUT extended its gratitude to Mr. Gopesh Debnath, Bicycle Mayor of Agartala, for his cooperation in organizing the program, and also thanked the press, traffic police, students, and cyclists for their generous support and participation.
On June 5, the TIUT campus hosted a tree plantation program, symbolizing a commitment to environmental conservation. The following day, June 6, witnessed the “Make Campus Plastic Free” drive and a poster competition themed “Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration”, highlighting the university’s dedication to sustainability. Additionally, a Vastu Puja ceremony at the new campus building marked a significant step in TIUT’s growth. The painting competition, with enthusiastic participation from schools and colleges across Tripura, added vibrant colours to the event, showcasing a collective passion for environmental awareness and sustainable practices.The celebrations concluded with a prize distribution, a display of paintings, a vote of thanks, and the National Anthem.
