Maha: Ex-CM Prithviraj Chavan demands strict testing, quarantine protocol at Mumbai airport amidst spread of Mpox virus

Amidst concerns over rapid spread of Monkeypox worldwide including in the neighbouring countries, former Maharashtra chief minister and senior Congress leader, Prithviraj Chavan, has written a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, demanding to implement strict testing and quarantine protocol at Mumbai airport for passengers from high-risk countries.

A copy of the letter was circulated to media persons in Karad town of the district on Monday.

Even as coronavirus has been on retreat, this new disease has now raised its head with a rapid spread around the world, he said while raising his concern.

With this infectious disease now spreading to more than 70 countries in the world, the World Health Organisation has also declared it as an health emergency.

Against this background, Chavan wrote a letter to Shinde and demanded to implement strict screening of passengers and quarantine protocols at Mumbai airport of incoming passengers who come from high-risk countries.

He also expressed a serious concern that if an infected person enters the country without screening, it could lead to serious consequences.
