A fire broke out at the site of the largest UK defense contractor BAE Systems in the town of Barrow-in-Furness on Wednesday, but there is no nuclear threat, police in the UK county of Cumbria said.
“Emergency services are currently in attendance at BAE at a significant fire at the site. There is no nuclear risk. However, people living nearby are advised to remain indoors whilst emergency services respond to the incident and keep doors and windows closed,” the police said in a statement.
The incident was reported at about 00:44 a.m. local time (00:44 GMT) and is still ongoing, the police said.
Two people were taken to hospital for suspected smoke inhalation, the statement added.
Meanwhile, UK media reported that British nuclear submarines are built at the facility.
