Agartala, 11th December 2024: In preparation for the upcoming Plenary Session of the North East Council (NEC), security measures have been significantly heightened across Agartala city.
Located near the international border with Bangladesh, which shares an 856-km boundary with Tripura, Agartala’s proximity to sensitive areas has prompted additional vigilance.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar highlighted the enhanced security arrangements. “We have established fixed barricades near the Akhaura Integrated Check Post and intensified patrolling in border-adjacent areas. With the NEC Plenary Session scheduled for December 20 and 21, extra forces have been deployed in sensitive zones of Agartala,” he said.
The SP assured that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure law and order remain intact during the high-profile event.
This marks the first time Agartala will host the NEC Plenary Session. The event will see the participation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Governors of the Northeast states.]
