Agartala, 11th December 2024:   Acting on a tip-off, Tripura Police from East Agartala police station apprehended two women who are from Bihar from Jogendra Nagar railway station in Agartala on Tuesday afternoon.

They were found in possession of 8.4 kg of cannabis, estimated to be worth Rs 1 lakh in the illicit market.

According to the Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee the operation was conducted after receiving confidential information about individuals attempting to transport cannabis out of Tripura.

“A police team promptly rushed to the railway station and intercepted the suspects. The arrested women, both residents of Bihar, were allegedly transporting the contraband to their home state. Preliminary interrogation has revealed the involvement of multiple individuals, including local agents, who are now under police radar”, he said.

The two women were presented in court on Wednesday, where the police sought permission for interrogation in jail custody to unearth more details about the drug network.
