Agartala, 12th December 2024:   A serious complication over land occupation in the Gokulnagar Bhuiyan Matha area of Bishalgarh subdivision has led to a blockade of the national highway. The landowner despite having a favorable court verdict is unable to take possession of the land. The current occupants claiming unfair eviction have joined the blockade along with local supporters. The police have struggled to bring the situation under control.

In 2005, Seema Das and Bibhas Das purchased land in Gokulnagar Bhuiyan Matha from Arjun Datta. However, the family of the deceased Haribal Deb Sarkar, who currently occupies the land refuses to relinquish possession. Despite the court’s verdict in favor of Seema Das and Bibhas Das on three occasions, the owners have faced persistent obstruction.

On Thursday, when Seema Das and Bibhas Das attempted to take possession, the family of Haribal Deb Sarkar, backed by locals blocked the national highway. The Bishalgarh police were called to handle the situation but failed to disperse the blockade, resulting in severe traffic congestion.

Bibhas Das expressed frustration, stating, “Even with a court order, we are unable to use our land. Today, we faced obstacles from the blockaders again.” This ongoing dispute has heightened tensions in the area.

On the other hand, the family of Haribal Deb Sarkar insists that the land is their ancestral property. “According to the documents from the District Magistrate’s office in 1995, this land belongs to the deceased Haribal Deb Sarkar. We are not willing to leave,” a family member claimed. They accused Bibhas Das and others of trying to forcibly seize the land with police assistance.

The situation remains unresolved, with both parties standing firm on their claims. The locals’ support for the blockade signifies the deep-rooted nature of this dispute, highlighting the need for a fair and effective resolution.
