Agartala, 14th December 2024: The annual conference of the Tripura Journalists Union was held today at the Agartala Press Club, drawing a significant number of journalists from various districts across the state. The event was attended by TJU’s President Pranab Sarkar, Vice-President Chitra Roy, Secretary General Alok Ghosh and other guests.
The Tripura Journalists Union began its journey in 2002 with just 10 journalists has grown to become the largest organization of journalists in the state. During the conference, the notable work undertaken by the organization over the past year was showcased, highlighting its commitment to supporting and safeguarding journalists.
President Pranab Sarkar emphasized the union’s dedication to providing security for journalists, standing by those who have been attacked by miscreants, and addressing their needs. “The Tripura Journalists Union is always by the side of journalists at different district and sub-division levels of the state. We are committed to ensuring their safety and well-being,” he said.
Secretary General Alok Ghosh presented the editorial report, detailing the union’s activities and achievements. “We have made significant strides in supporting our members and addressing the challenges they face. Our efforts have not only provided security but also strengthened the journalism community in Tripura,” Ghosh remarked.
Vice President Chitra Roy and other leaders discussed various issues and the organization’s future plans. They acknowledged that in some districts, the union has faced challenges due to internal misunderstandings but reaffirmed their commitment to resolving these issues. “We are dedicated to overcoming any internal conflicts and working unitedly for the betterment of our members,” said Roy.
A significant announcement during the conference was the appointment of Sourajit Pal as the new secretary, a role that will further strengthen the union’s efforts to support journalists.
Looking ahead, President Sarkar highlighted the union’s plans to celebrate its 25th anniversary next year. “We have come a long way since our inception in 2002, and our 25th anniversary will be a milestone celebration. We will continue to work unitedly to achieve our goals and support our members,” Sarkar stated.
The conference concluded with a renewed sense of commitment and unity among the members, setting the stage for continued efforts to support and uplift the journalism community in Tripura.
