Agartala, 14th December 2024:   In a bid to promote awareness about the sub-schemes of the Union government’s Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Tripura organized an outreach campaign in Agartala on Saturday.

The event witnessed participation from fishery officers and scientists representing seven states, reflecting the nationwide significance of the initiative.

Speaking to reporters, Santosh Das, Director of Tripura’s Fishery Department, highlighted the Union government’s recent introduction of two sub-schemes under PMMSY. “The NFDB is conducting outreach campaigns across the country to ensure that stakeholders understand the benefits of these schemes, which aim to enhance fish productivity and provide financial support to entrepreneurs adopting advanced technologies,” he said.

Das emphasized the importance of the campaign in boosting the fishery sector. “This initiative will not only help farmers increase productivity but also encourage entrepreneurs to invest in the sector using modern techniques. The Tripura government is striving to make the state self-sufficient in fish production and bridge the annual production gap of approximately 32,000 metric tonnes,” he added.

The campaign, which currently focuses on Agartala, is set to expand to district, sub-divisional, and village levels, with a completion target between December 20 and 22.

By bringing these efforts to the grassroots, the outreach program aims to empower local farmers and entrepreneurs, contributing to the overall growth of the fishery sector in Tripura and beyond.
