95-year-old woman dies in tragic train accident at Bishramganj

Agartala, 17th December 2024:   A 95-year-old woman named Bhalobasha Poddar tragically died after being crushed under the wheels of a train traveling from Sabroom to Agartala. The incident took place on Tuesday morning near pillar number 198 on the railway road in the Dakshin Charilam Karaimura Poddar Para area under Bishramganj police station.

Sameer Poddar, a local resident explained that Bhalobasha Poddar, a widowed woman from the area often crossed the railway road by leaning on the ground due to her age and inability to walk upright. “She walked by leaning on the ground with both hands and feet,” he said. On Tuesday morning, while crossing the railway road to enter her house, she fell under the train’s wheels, resulting in her body being severed.

The gruesome scene left blood, flesh, hands, feet, and her head scattered on the railway road. Upon receiving the news, Bishramganj police station and the Bishramganj fire brigade immediately rushed to the spot, along with local residents. The police collected the body parts and transported them to the Bishramganj Primary Health Center. After the autopsy, her body will be handed over to her family members.

The death of Bhalobasha Poddar has cast a shadow of mourning over the entire area, leaving the community in shock and grief.
