Agartala, 24th December 2024: Despite the current state government’s unwavering commitment to improving the healthcare system and ensuring the accessibility of medical services to the people, negligence by a section of health workers and doctors continues to undermine these efforts.
In a shocking incident, government-supplied medicines worth thousands of rupees were found discarded in a dustbin at the Ashram Para Urban Primary Health Center.
News reporters caught the incident on camera, revealing that these medicines, purchased with taxpayers’ money, had expired while being stored in the hospital’s facilities.
Had these medicines been distributed to patients on time, both the government’s expenditure and public health could have significantly benefited. Instead, the gross mismanagement has resulted in wastage and public outrage.
According to local residents, the Ashram Para Urban Primary Health Center, like all government hospitals, is expected to provide free medicines and medical services to the public. However, the discovery of expired medicines worth lakhs of rupees being dumped has highlighted serious administrative lapses.
One local resident expressed frustration, stating, “Government hospitals are meant to serve the people. If the medicines had been distributed in time, the people could have benefited, and the government’s money would not have been wasted. This is unacceptable.”
