Agartala, 12th January 2025:  In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Tripura Police seized Yaba tablets worth Rs 1 crore during an operation in Agartala on Sunday morning. The contraband was found hidden inside a cement-laden truck, and two suspects were arrested in connection with the case.

West Tripura District Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar revealed that the operation was launched following a tip-off received at around 6 AM. A joint team comprising the Officers-in-Charge of West and East Agartala Police Stations, Rana Chatterjee and Paritosh Das, along with Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debaprasad Roy, conducted the raid.

The 12-wheeler truck, originating from Meghalaya and transporting cement, was en route to Sonamura in the Sepahijala district when it was intercepted. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered 1,20,000 Yaba tablets concealed within the cargo.

“The seized drugs have an estimated market value of ₹1 crore,” SP Kiran Kumar said.

The arrested individuals, identified as Jamal Hossen (43) and Mintu Barman (33), are residents of Bishalgarh in the Sepahijala district. Both suspects are currently in police custody, and authorities plan to seek their remand to facilitate further investigation into the trafficking network.
