Agartala, 12th January 2025: The Border Security Force (BSF) stationed in Tripura successfully foiled a significant smuggling operation and detained three Bangladeshi nationals within the past 24 hours.
According to BSF officials, on January 12, vigilant *Mahila Praharis* (women personnel) at Border Out Post (BOP) Ashabari in Sepahijala district fired two rounds from their service weapons under compelling circumstances. A large group of smugglers, armed with sharp-edged weapons, attempted to carry out smuggling activities. The alert BSF personnel thwarted the attempt, recovering substantial quantities of sugar and other contraband items.
In another operation on January 11, BSF troops at BOP Gaurnagar in Khowai district apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross into Bangladesh illegally. The detainees, residents of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh, disclosed the involvement of Indian and Bangladeshi touts who facilitated their border-crossing efforts.
The BSF reported that several other infiltration and smuggling attempts were intercepted using non-lethal strategies. Troops rescued 10 cattle and seized contraband worth over ₹50 lakh, including 1,000 kg of sugar, 16 kg of ganja, clothing, medicines, and other items.
Meanwhile, Inspector General (IG) Ashwani Kumar Sharma of the BSF’s Tripura Frontier conducted a three-day visit to the Panisagar Sector, inspecting BOPs in Kamalpur and Kailasahar under Unakoti district on January 11 and 12. Accompanied by DIG Rajeev Vatsaraj, IG Sharma reviewed the operational preparedness of the troops and visited the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Manughat, where he also presented a fruit basket to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel stationed there. “IG BSF was briefed by Battalion Commanders on the prevailing security scenario along the border,” the BSF said in a statement.
