Agartala, 7th February 2025: The LIC Agents Organization staged a protest today outside the TRTC office here opposing the Union Budget’s proposal for 100% foreign investment in the insurance sector and decisions adversely affecting over 14 lakh agents across the country. The protestors announced plans to continue demonstrations in front of LIC offices across India, culminating in a significant protest in front of Parliament and LIC headquarters on February 11.
The agitation stems from recent government actions, including commission cuts for agents and the introduction of age-related restrictions, which are expected to impact the livelihood of agents and the functioning of LIC.
The state president of the organization criticized the government’s decision to sell LIC shares to private companies, warning it could jeopardize LIC’s future. The protest was led by state secretary Sujit Dey, calls for the immediate withdrawal of the 100% foreign investment proposal in the insurance sector.
