Agartala, 23rd February 2025:  In a remarkable testament to the power of determination and hard work, Nasir Uddin, a young resident of Bitrakul Kala Gangerpar village in Kadamtala block has achieved extraordinary success in the field of agriculture. Despite lacking focus in his studies and completing his education after secondary school, Nasir’s journey took an inspiring turn when he discovered the potential of kul (Indian jujube) cultivation on social media.

In March 2019, Nasir embarked on his agricultural venture by purchasing 200 kul seedlings from Kolkata and planting them on a kani (approximately 0.4 acre) of land. By January 1, 2020, his trees had produced their first fruits, marking a promising start to his entrepreneurial journey. In the first year, Nasir’s hard work paid off, earning him an impressive income of six lakh rupees.

Undeterred by the challenges posed by the pandemic, Nasir expanded his efforts in the following year. He acquired 800 additional seedlings, increasing his cultivation area to five kanis (about 2 acres) and bringing the total number of trees to 1,000. Over the past five years, Nasir’s dedication and perseverance have yielded significant results, with his annual profit now reaching eight to nine lakh rupees.

Nasir sells his kul directly from his home at the rate of Rs 100 per kilogram. Each tree yields 30-40 kilograms of fruit per year, attracting an average of 50-60 buyers daily, including many wholesale customers. To date, Nasir has sold approximately 120 quintals of kul, earning widespread recognition for his successful farm.

In 2020, the Agriculture Department extended a helping hand by providing Nasir with Rs 10,000 in financial assistance and an additional grant of Rs 18,000 for farm maintenance. The government also supplied a pipe for irrigation, further supporting his farming endeavors.

Nasir’s success does not end with kul cultivation. He has diversified his farm by introducing four varieties of kul—Kashmiri Apple kul, Bharat Sundari, Ball Sundari, and Tiger—and has also ventured into seasonal fruits, mangoes, and dragon fruit cultivation.

Committed to sharing his knowledge and success, Nasir has been selling kul seedlings at Rs 100 each and training new farmers. He has assisted in establishing new farms for five farmers and encouraged 15 new entrepreneurs to start their own kul cultivation ventures.

Today, Nasir lives happily with his parents, wife, son, and daughter. He strongly believes that young people should strive for self-reliance by cultivating their own land or renting land, rather than solely pursuing government jobs.

Nasir Uddin’s journey from worrying about unemployment to becoming a millionaire entrepreneur is a powerful reminder that, truly, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”
