Agartala, 18th March 2025: In a nationwide demonstration, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) organized protests against the Union Budget, which they claim has provided no benefits for workers.
As part of their movement, BMS submitted deputations addressed to the Union Finance Minister through District Magistrates across the country. In Tripura, the protest culminated in a march through the city, where BMS leaders handed over a memorandum of demands to the District Magistrate.
During the protest, a BMS state president Debashree Kalai remarked that the Union Budget entirely neglected the interests of workers. In response, the organization outlined six demands and submitted deputations in all districts. Following the directives of the BMS State Committee, the West District Committee in coordination with other district units presented the demands to the District Magistrate.
Key demands include the cessation of 100% foreign investment in the insurance sector and the immediate imposition of a ban on the sale of government assets.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Sepahijala District Committee including State Secretary Helen Debbarma and District Committee President Jiban Bhowmik presented the demands. Key issues highlighted in the charter include halting 100% foreign investment in the insurance sector, imposing an immediate ban on the sale of government assets, allocating sufficient funds for the unorganized sector, ensuring equal pay for project workers comparable to government employees, and enhancing the EPF salary limit from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000.
State Secretary Helen Debbarma emphasized that the demands reflect the pressing concerns of workers across the state and reiterated the commitment of the BMS to advocate for their rights. The submission of the charter in all districts highlights the organization’s unified approach to addressing these critical issues.
