Agartala, 16th May 2025: In a significant push to improve access to higher education in Tripura’s tribal-majority areas, the state government has approved the establishment of a new Government Degree College at Ambassa in Dhalai district.
As per an official notification issued by Animesh Debbarma, Additional Secretary of the Education (Higher) Department, the new institution is set to begin operations from the academic session 2025–26. The move is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote inclusive, quality education and drive socio-economic growth in underserved regions.
“This college is envisioned to offer quality education across various disciplines and play a vital role in the overall development of the region,” the notification read. The department will decide the range of courses and student intake capacity based on demand and available infrastructure.
Admissions will follow the regulations of the affiliating university, while seat reservations will be implemented in line with the prevailing Reservation Acts and Rules of the state government.
The academic framework—including curriculum, examinations, and administrative functions—will be governed jointly by the affiliating university and the state’s Education (Higher) Department.
Appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff, including the Principal, will be made by the department. All official records, assets, and correspondence related to the new institution will now be processed under the name Government Degree College, Ambassa, effective immediately.
