Agartala, 3rd June 2025:  After two to three days of incessant rainfall, the sun finally emerged in West Tripura district, providing much-needed respite to residents. However, the heavy downpour led to a significant rise in the Howrah River’s water level, resulting in waterlogging and widespread flooding across several areas of Agartala. Numerous homes were submerged, and though the water has begun receding with the appearance of sunlight, concerns remain over the potential spread of waterborne and infectious diseases.

In response to the situation, Neetu Guha Dey, Corporator of Ward No. 36 of Agartala Municipal Corporation initiated a door-to-door distribution of bleaching powder in various affected areas to curb the risk of infections. Speaking about the effort, the Corporator emphasized that the initiative was undertaken with public health safety in mind.

Meanwhile, Ramakrishna Mission Dhaleshwar stepped forward to provide relief by organizing a food distribution drive in different areas. In West Para of Dakshin Joynagar, meals were provided to families who had returned home from refugee camps but were unable to make cooking arrangements. The humanitarian effort was led by Swami Amaratmananda Maharaj, Principal of Ramakrishna Mission Dhaleshwar Math.

Several dignitaries participated in the food distribution program, including Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, Ward 36 Corporator Neetu Guha Dey, Corporator Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya, Mandal President Amitabha Bhattacharjee and other officials.

Residents expressed appreciation for the swift response by local authorities and service organizations, stating that such initiatives have provided much-needed relief in the aftermath of the flooding. As the community works toward recovery, efforts to mitigate health risks and provide essential aid continue.
