Russia air defence systems intercepted 174 Ukrainian drones, says Defence Ministry

Russian air defence systems intercepted and shot down 174 Ukrainian drones on Thursday night, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed on Friday.

“During the past night from 20:00 Moscow time (17:00 GMT) on June 5 to (04:20 Moscow time) on June 6, air defence systems duty intercepted and destroyed 174 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles of the aircraft type over the territories of the Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Ryazan, Tula, Belgorod, Tambov, Moscow regions and the Republic of Crimea,” the ministry said in a statement.

Ten drones were shot down while approaching Moscow, according to the capital’s mayor. Authorities temporarily closed three airports in the Moscow area for safety, but they have since reopened, according to Bloomberg.

Additionally, the air defence systems destroyed three Ukrainian Neptune-MD guided missiles over the Black Sea, the statement read. Russian Air Force also destroyed two Ukrainian drones headed for the country’s Tula region, leaving three people injured, according to Dimitry Milyavev, reports Sputnik.

“This past night, air defence units of the Russian Defence Ministry destroyed two Ukrainian aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles that attacked the Tula Region. As a result of the enemy attack, three people were injured,” Milyayev wrote on Telegram. UNI ANV SSP
