Agartala, 7th June 2025:   Tension erupted in the Rajnagar area of Udaipur on the occasion of Eid al-Adha after allegations surfaced that cows were slaughtered publicly, defying administrative directives. The situation turned volatile as an agitated mob reportedly demolished houses of the accused, prompting a swift response from a large police force.

The incident took place in the premises of the Rajnagar Bhubaneswari temple, where members of the Hindu community alleged that despite prior warnings, cattle were slaughtered openly during the Eid festivities. The issue quickly escalated as local residents clashed, leading to the destruction of property and an assault on a member of the Muslim community.

Police forces including the Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nirman Das rushed to the spot to control the situation. “Extreme tension had spread in two areas Rajnagar and Gomati Para following the public slaughter of cattle in violation of instructions,” said SP Debbarma.

“Upon receiving the complaint, police reached the scene and buried the carcasses on administrative orders. Separate cases have been registered in both incidents and investigations are ongoing,” the SP added. “We are maintaining law and order. No illegal activity will be tolerated,” he asserted.

While police claim the situation is now under control, a heavy security presence remains in the area to prevent further escalation. Local authorities have urged both communities to maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
