Agartala, 21st June 2026: The 12th International Yoga Day was observed with solemnity at Women’s College, highlighting the theme of yoga’s vital role in maintaining good health during old age.
The programme was presided over by College Principal Sanchita Riang. Tapasi Das, Secretary of the Teachers’ Council, graced the occasion as a special guest, while Monika Das, representing the Women’s College Alumni Association, attended as an honored guest.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Professor Jaydeep Talapatra, Head of the Department of Physical Education. In her remarks, Tapasi Das stressed that yoga should not be confined to a single day of celebration, but embraced as a year-round necessity for healthy living. NSS Programme Officer Rama Bhattacharya reflected on the wisdom of ancient sages who attained Mahanirvana through yoga, noting that Yoga Guru Ramdevji continues to propagate this discipline. She emphasized that yoga is the only practice capable of keeping the body’s glands functioning normally.
The honored guest underscored the importance of cultivating yoga habits from childhood. In her insightful address, Principal Riang described yoga as a medium that harmonizes the body, mind, and soul, enabling a balanced and healthy life.
The programme was enriched by the participation of faculty members, non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers, and students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pintu Debnath of the Department of Physical Education.
