Agartala: July 10. The Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma on Monday termed the state budget for 2023-24 as an ‘NGO Budget’ as he claimed that this has no direction and has no future for the people of the state.

While participating in the general discussion on the budget on the second day of the Tripura Legislative Assembly Session, Debbarma who is also MLA of TIPRA Motha said, “The budget of 2023-24 has no direction. Budget should be made based on future but this budget is not futuristic. There is no reflection of development in this budget. I can tell this budget as a budget of an NGO”.

He said that the erstwhile left-front government has destroyed the state and for which people have formed BJP government in 2018 to make the state self-reliant.

“Even BJP in his speech said that they will make Tripura Self Reliant. I doubt whether it will really going be happen or not. The state own revenue even didn’t cross 15% in last two years. They didn’t even mention how the deficit money will be arranged. This budget and the given assurances are contradicting with each other”, said Animesh.

He further said, “The people living in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council had hope that this present government will do something for them. I was deeply pained that in 2022-23 FY the state government sanctioned Rs 619 crores while this year it was Rs 672 crores from the state budget which is around 2.7 %. We are unable to give salaries to our employees”. Late he demanded to increase the budget according to the population which is 35%.
